What's the matter with Pennsylvania?
Since the 2010 election, Republicans have approved laws to restrict the right to vote in more than a dozen states. Much of this has been orchestrated by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which receives substantial funding from the Koch brothers.
Why is this? They're not even trying to hide the true reason for this outright theft of our democracy. While listing off a string of right-wing legislative accomplishments at a political event in Pennsylvania, State House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R) stated, "Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done."
So what can we do about it? Fight back against voter suppression by supporting great progressive candidates, to take back state legislatures across the country.
These candidates will, after they are elected, pass laws restoring the right to vote for everyone. But because they are fighting on a tilted playing field, they need your help more than ever.
Farm team member and former State Representative David Levdansky is running again for State Representative in District 39. He's a big supporter of the right to vote (in fact it was his legislation in 1994 that enabled the motor voter law in Pennsylvania). Now he's challenging the incumbent Republican in that seat, and he needs your resources to win.
David served honorably for 26 years in the Assembly before being upset by a no-name Tea Party freshman Republican in 2010. His seat was targeted by the HRCC and the Gillespie SuperPAC. They sent 19 negative pieces of mail against Levdansky in the last two weeks before the election! Yet David lost by only 250 votes.
We know they'll be going after David again, with no scruples and boatloads of money. Can you please donate $5 or more today to support David and other Pennsylvania farm team members? All funds raised through this page will go to support Pennsylvania candidates.
